Custom Hats

Flint has a full service hat shop creating felt hats using old world and new world techniques.
Choose from the many features available as listed below.

Ordering Process

  1. Determine the quality of felt, crown height, and brim width you want.
  2. Color options are dependent upon felt quality and brim width. You can use the chart to aid your decision.
  3. Come to the shop for a required consultation. We will measure your head and walk through each aspect of your hat to make sure it's pefect.
  4. We require 50% down payment when you place your order.
  5. We will contact you when your hat is ready. If you are fully satisfied, you can let us know how you want it creased or do it yourself using our steamer. If there are any problems, we'll resolve them, then collect the remaining balance.

*Note: Retail hat companies do not use a level standard for hat sizes. Our hats are custom fit to the size and shape of your head.

*The number of stars only represents a comparison of each hat to each other. Generally, these hat ratings are higher in quality than "store bought" hats.
** The more beaver fur in the felt; the more durable, thinner, lighter, water-resistant, and better the finish is.

All custom hats come with a sweat band with your name printed on it, liner, and a 2-ply ribbon hat band, (or other hat band at additional cost), and a custom made wood hat retainer.

 

Crown Height

Brim Width
  • 5 3/4" tapered is an extremely low crown.
    If creased, it will probably touch the top of your head.
  • 5 3/4" low crown
  • 6" standard crown height
  • 6 1/2" tall crown
  • 2" to 4" or 5" trimmed in 1/8" increments.
  • Brims over 4" are an additional charge (different hat body blank)

The choices of colors for our felt hats vary between the quality of the hat and the maximum brim size, specifically between 4" and 5".

Crease

Hat Band
There are hundreds of creases and variations. We have a small sample on our hat page. Feel free to send photos or some detailed description to us. If you want, we can leave the hat with an open crown and flat brim so you can shape it yourself.

All custom hats come with a 2-ply, 3-ply, or grosgrain ribbon of varying widths and colors for a hat band unless specified for something else. Other hat band options are available at additional cost.
